Here are some formatting tips for using projection in Founders Hall.  Be sure to read them all as some may apply to what you are doing.

Using your own laptop:

  • Bring the correct cables.  The presenter panels (3 locations around the room) are ready for HDMI (with sound) or VGA & 3.5 mm headphone input cables.  No RCA, 1/4", XLR or USB connections are available.
  • Make sure your cords are long enough to set up where you want to be.
  • Bring an extension cord.  Power is located near the presenter panels, but you may want to set up farther away.
  • Arrive early enough to test your technology.  If you are using your own laptop, Tech Support may not be on hand to assist you.  They may have configured the projection to be ready without intervention.
  • Make sure you have indicated which presenter panel you will be using and which screens you have chosen to project on.  This will likely be arranged before you arrive.  Check out the Founder's Hall Diagram HERE.
  • Notify the office if you have sound in your presentation.  This will need to be arranged ahead of time and you will need one of the two cord sets listed above.

Using Tech Support for your event:

  • Send your files (if they are small enough) ahead of your presentation date to : support@kogva.org (this will allow us to prepare and test them prior to your arrival)
  • Have all of your files (PowerPoint, Movies, Sounds, Music, etc...) on a USB drive as a back-up.
  • See the tips for formatting PowerPoint, Showing Video, Using Music & Sound below.  These all apply to you.
  • If you use ProPresenter, please feel free to bring files in the ".pro5" or later file type.  We will import them in and provide you with an iPad to control your presentation.
  • Movie files in .mov format work best.  If you can't convert your video on your own, please contact support@kogva.org ahead of your event to have it converted.

Using Microsoft PowerPoint:

  • Format your presentation in 16:9 format to utilize the entire screen.
  • Don't use transitions for slides if you are not controlling the projection from your laptop.  We use ProPresenter6 for Mac in this room and our presentation program doesn't read these animations and transitions.  It will convert each slide to a static image for projection.
  • Follow best practices in designing your PowerPoint presentation.  Here is a great reference to brush up on making a great presentation: CLICK HERE

Showing Video:

  • Screens are formatted in 16:9 format.  Wide screen editions will look better.
  • Remember your audio cords.  Video is great, but looses it's effectiveness if you can't hear the soundtrack.
